Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and friends are pulling out their work gloves, finding their gardening tools and taking food from their pantries in preparation for 27 October's "Day of Service" event.
People throughout Australia, New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific will unite to serve, beautify and help their local communities.
All are welcome to attend and participate. Listed below are a few of the community service activities planned for tomorrow. Those desiring to know what is happening in their own communities are encouraged to contact local church leaders.
- Sunnynook, Auckland, New Zealand - Gardening, erecting sheds, tree trimming, water blasting and packing dry food for the Love Soup food rescue. 38 Juniper Rd, Sunnynook, 8 to 11 a.m.
- Penrose/Mangere, Auckland, New Zealand - Food drive to help local foodbanks feed the 3,000 registered homeless and ‘at risk’ people in the greater Mangere area. Bring five cans or food items to 49 McKenzie Rd, Mangere between 10 a.m. and noon. Contact (021)213 5038 for more details.
- Manukau, Auckland, New Zealand - Assisting with the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Child Operation. 15 Robertson Rd, Favona, 9 a.m. to noon.
- Panmure, Auckland, New Zealand - Cleaning and beautifying the Riverside Reserve. 50 Dunkirk Rd, Point England, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Browns Bay, Auckland, New Zealand - Beach clean up. 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Porirua, New Zealand - Food drive to help the Salvation Army and Wesley foodbanks. Bring canned food or dental hygiene items to 48 Ngatitoa Street between 8 a.m. and noon. Contact (021)138 5798 to help with door-to-door collection.
