Latter-day Saints Find Common Principles with Baha'i Friends

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from some of Sydney's northern suburbs recently visited the Sydney Baha'i Temple.

As regular participants in charitable work, the Church of Jesus Christ also recognises friends of other faiths and their important contributions to society.

The host couple, Herwig and Sadhana Streubel, are currently on a three month assignment from their home in Delhi, India, to volunteer at the visitors centre of the Baha'i Temple.
The couple gave a presentation which explained the basic tenets of their faith and graciously answered the questions posed by the visitors.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Baha'i faith both believe in God and prophets, respect human rights for all people, and recognise the equal worth of men and women.

Both religions emphasise the importance of education and charitable service in the community, and encourage individuals to seek truth by studying the scriptures and other spiritual texts.

The host couple took the visitors on a tour which ended with a short walk to the nine-sided Baha'i Temple. The structure is three tiers high with nine doors and beautiful simple designs of their nine-pointed star symbolising unity. The temple is a quiet place for silent contemplation where visitors are welcome to come find stillness and calm every day of the week.

Many of the visitors had previously driven past the Baha'i Temple and were curious and delighted by the opportunity to attend.

Meerie Barkle, a leader in the Church's local young women's program, shared, "I've driven past the Baha'i Temple for 40 years, I can even see it from my house! This is the first time I've come to visit and I'm glad I did."

Leo Kwok, another one of the visitors, said, "I was impressed by the devotion of the Baha'i community. I am grateful for the opportunity to see their temple which they hold sacred. I believe that there can be great power and peace when people seek to do good together despite their different beliefs."

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints advocates for religious freedom for all and supports religious organisations that contribute to the good of society.
