A downpour of rain did not hinder the excitement of parents and students as they gathered to celebrate the new addition to the Government Middle School of Veitongo in Tonga recently.
The school was experiencing overcrowded classrooms and needed a long-term solution. Recognizing these challenges, the Parents and Teachers Association contacted The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seeking assistance with the project.

He added, “We are all Heavenly Father’s children. The Church and its humanitarian arm are fortunate and privileged to be able to add a little bit in order to help promote quality education and most importantly, the learning of our children for they are the future of the country.”
Representatives from both the Ministry of Education and the Veitongo community all expressed their gratitude to the Church and its members for this contribution that will bless not only the children, but the community at large.
Falemaama Fualalo, the school’s principal, shared how they were “looking for ways to help fund these two new classrooms. Our prayers were finally heard when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints decided to assist us in funding a school building with two classrooms."
She added that the classrooms will also be “used as an evacuation center for the people in the village in times of a natural disaster.”
