Former President of French Polynesia, Édouard Tereori Fritch, and President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, reconnected recently—through a book.

The two leaders met in 2019 when President Nelson, along with his wife, Sister Wendy Watson Nelson, met President Fritch in Papeete, when the Nelsons were visiting the South Pacific.

This month, Elder Frederic Riemer, an Area Seventy of the Church who lives in Tahiti, visited President Fritch to discuss the current work he is doing as Mayor of the Pirae municipality, and also to reminisce on the 2019 visit of the Nelsons.

Elder Riemer took the opportunity to present a copy of President Nelson’s new book, “Heart of the Matter: What 100 years of life have taught me,” to President Fritch.

President Fritch shared his great love and respect for President Nelson.

“President Nelson radiates light and energy,” said President Fritch. "I am so honored to receive this dedicated book from President Nelson. He has such a special place in my heart."
