On March 16th 2023, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New South Wales (NSW) donated a four-wheel drive to Blaze Aid to support its emergency response to the devastating floods which affected Molong, Eugowra Forbes and other areas of the Central West.

Communities in NSW’s central west were left with extensive damages to homes, properties and infrastructure after flash flooding and heavy rains at the end of 2022. Local businesses, charities and volunteers came together to clean up mud and remove debris as well as aid individuals and families who had to evacuate from their homes.

Blaze Aid is one of the volunteer-based organisations that responded to the crisis. It works primarily with people in rural regions after natural disasters. Working alongside rural families, its volunteers help in ways such as rebuilding fences and other damaged structures and thereby assisting families, individuals and communities recover their businesses and lives.

Elder Robert Simpson (Area Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), President Chris Horsburgh (Orange District President) and Mr. Andrew Meyer (Manager of Welfare and Self-Reliance Services) visited Molong in March to donate the vehicle to Blaze Aid. The vehicle will be used for transporting volunteers to and from properties affected by the floods as well as tow a trailer full of equipment and tools needed in the recovery efforts.

Mr. Colin Colman, Blaze Aids’ volunteer camp coordinator said, “The response has been incredible, now with the 4WD we are able to access more areas and help more families than we could before. The recovery efforts have gained momentum and we are now getting the work done much faster.”

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints feel that it is a duty to follow the Saviour’s example in helping those in need. The Church provides relief in situations of natural disasters and other emergencies.
