Elder Taniela Wakolo, a senior leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fiji, recently presented a “Family Values Award” to Mr. Joseva Serulagilai and his wife Mrs Rejieli Jijilia Serulagilai.
Mr Serulagilai is a former chairman of the nation’s Public Services Commission and has also served in a number of voluntary community leadership positions over many years.
Over 800 Latter-day Saints and members of the Serulagilai family attended the ceremony at the Church’s Naula Chapel in Suva, Fiji.
Marking the award, Elder Wakolo presented Mr Serulagilai a family-themed statuette entitled “Family Ties.”
Elder Wakolo thanked Mr. Serulagilai for his years of dedicated service to his country and his volunteer service to his community.
Mr. Serulagilai and his wife, Rejieli, have raised seven children and have strong beliefs in the importance of teaching children solid principles and values.
The Latter-day Saint “Family Values Award” honours community leaders who have made outstanding contributions to the family. Its objective is to recognize the honourable efforts of upstanding community leaders, who are striving to advance standards and values that are consistent with the Church’s position on the family.
The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stated in 1995 that: “Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
“Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities."
