Representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated kitchen equipment to the Canvasback Wellness Center last week.
The facility has supported the people of Marshall Islands for over 30 years in the areas of nutrition and health.
According to the center’s Facebook page, “The Canvasback Wellness Center was founded and is operated by Canvasback Missions, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has worked since 1981 to bring otherwise unavailable specialty healthcare and health education to the islands of Micronesia.
“The Canvasback Wellness Center is located in Majuro, next to the Majuro Hospital, RMI, and serves the people of the Marshall Islands by providing resources to prevent diabetes and other non-communicable diseases through nutrition, cooking, gardening, and fitness.”
President of the Majuro Marshall Islands Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Zed Zedhkeia, said, “Through this donation of various kinds of kitchen equipment, we hope that the Wellness Center will continue and even increase the amount of diabetic programming that it does both in this building and out in the community.
“We applaud its holistic approach to diabetes prevention and mitigation which includes teaching workshops on foods you should eat to stay healthy; how to grow healthy food; how to cook healthy food; and the importance of exercise in preventing or controlling diabetes.”
