Tim Butters of Wellington, New Zealand has spent his life thus far balancing two passions: a love of God and a love of filmmaking. Sometimes, those two priorities fight each other.
Butters, as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and bishop of one of the Church’s congregations in Wellington, believes that the sabbath should be a special day dedicated to God and family. He made a commitment early in his career never to work on Sundays, and has kept that commitment diligently ever since.
Though his commitment caused him to pass up many opportunities in the film industry, Butters said he was eventually blessed with his own “big break.”
“God knows my dreams and aspirations in perfect detail,” Butters said. “The blessing of the sabbath is worth more to me than any film, but I know I was doubly blessed … because of my commitment to it.”
