Communities of Faith Gather in Nouméa, New Caledonia

“This was a first-of-its-kind event, but it won’t be the last; this is just the beginning”

On Sunday August 12, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nouméa, New Caledonia hosted an interfaith event at the Church's Nouméa Stake Centre.

Around 400 people filled the chapel to capacity at the event.

Members of the The Seventh-day Adventist Church, Bahá'í Faith, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated.

Mrs. Sonia Lagarde, mayor of the municipality of Nouméa and Mr. Larry Martin, head of the youth observatory of New Caledonia were in attendance as special guests.

The theme chosen for the evening was “Together, Lift the Rising Generation.”

Youth choirs from the three faiths each performed followed by speakers Herewini Jones, Pastor Wadrobert and Ms. Wayenece Emma.

President Georgie Guidi of the Nouméa, New Caledonia Stake concluded the evening centering his remarks from a scripture found in 2 Timothy 4:12 of the New Testament.

Sonia Hotere, coordinator of the event, said, “This evening was a great opportunity to celebrate our common beliefs while respecting our differences.

“This was a first-of-its-kind event, but it won’t be the last," she said. "This is just the beginning.”
