Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wellington donated food and other groceries to the city's women's refuge recently.
For the last five years Wellington members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have held an annual grocery collection for the Wellington Women’s Refuge.
This year, during May, Latter-day Saints from Tawa, Petone, Wainuiomata and Wellington donated groceries from their own cupboards.
A representative from the women’s refuge said that previous donations from Church members have stocked their shelves for up to six months. This year the Wellington Women’s Refuge is sharing the donated items with Maori Women’s Refuge.
The groceries are used for women in violent situations who have had to leave their homes in a hurry with no resources. Food, toiletry, and baby care items provide much needed relief to these women and their children.
