“Most of the time we spend weeks or months meeting and planning our projects. Sometimes, it takes just seconds to create the need and we must respond equally as fast,” wrote humanitarian missionary Judy Brock on Facebook this week.
“On our island of Tarawa - all of the outer islands have large manaeabas [community buildings] where they can stay or plan activities when visiting the main island.
“Saturday night a small tornado or microburst demolished the Tebouateaina Manaeaba that belongs to the people of Butaritari.
"As a part of 'Come and Help,' District President Tamana organized two work days with the help of members from the Temaiku Branch to clean up the destruction so that rebuilding can begin.”
Sister Brock, who is serving as a humanitarian missionary with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kiribati with her husband Jeff, said, “We love the hearts and souls of these good people!!”
