At the start of their Australian tour, Jon Schmidt and Steven Sharp Nelson—also known as “The Piano Guys”—recently took time out of their schedule to share their talents and faith with young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Beenleigh area of south-east Queensland.

Jon Schmidt (pianist) and Steven Sharp Nelson, (cellist), are self-professed “dorky Dads,” who combine classical music with modern popular songs. In addition to favouring the young adults with their musical talents during a devotional, they also shared their faith in Jesus Christ.

They treated the congregation to several musical pieces, including their arrangements of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.”

Guests from Logan City Council included Councillor Miriam Stemp (Division 10); Councillor Laurie Koranski (Division 4), and her advisor Lucy; and Councillor Jon Raven (Division 5), with his partner Alison.

Jon spoke first and shared his insights into feeling the Spirit of God, and how we can feel the love of our Heavenly Father.

“We often think about what we have to do to get to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, but sometimes we need to reverse it and think of what lengths They have gone to get to us, because They love us,” he said.

Steven spoke about how music can affect our lives, urging everyone to take control of their own playlists and surround themselves with the most uplifting music.

He also bore heartfelt testimony of The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, noting that although it can be tough to read, it is worth it because it draws people closer to Jesus Christ.

While fielding questions, a singer-songwriter in the audience asked advice about maintaining her standards in an industry that can be harsh. Schmidt gave the advice to constantly acknowledge where her talent came from and to always call on God in prayer and listen to His promptings with everything she does.
