When the Nuku’alofa Tonga North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held it semi-annual conference on Sunday, 5 March, several honored guests were among those in attendance.
Her Excellency Lucy Joyce, the British High Commissioner to Tonga, and the Honorable Dulcie Tei, the only female member of the current Legislative Assembly, were guests at the conference meeting. Mrs. Tei was joined in attendance by her husband, Poasi.
A stake is a group of Latter-day Saint congregations within a designated geographical area.
Elder Sione Tuione, Area Seventy (regional leader), presided at that weekend’s meetings held at the Matavaimo’ui, Kolomotu’a chapel.
High Commissioner Joyce commented that she was deeply moved by all the talks and the testimonies shared during the meeting. She said the music was very uplifting, and she enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the conference.
Elder Tuione emphasized in his remarks that it’s important for members of the faith to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with friends and neighbours.
He emphasized that “the closer you become to Christ, the closer Jesus Christ and our Father in Heaven will be to you and your families.”
The stakes of the Church of Jesus Christ throughout the world typically meet twice a year in similar conferences.
