Chad H. Webb, First Counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, visited four countries of the South Pacific this month. He was accompanied by his wife, Kristi Webb.
In some cities he was also accompanied by Elder Jeremy R. Jaggi of the Seventy and a member of the Pacific Area Presidency of the Church, and Sister Amy Jaggi.
Brother and Sister Webb visited Auckland, Hamilton, Papeete, Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney, Brisbane and Port Moresby during their visit to the South Pacific.
In a devotional in Sydney on 21st of September, Brother Webb said, “201 years ago on this day, Joseph Smith knelt and prayed in his room. The day he received the gold plates was the day of the Feast of Trumpets for the Jews.”
Latter-day Saints believe that Joseph Smith Jr. translated the gold plates “by the gift and power of God” so we have The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ today.
Speaking of the need to prepare before worship and fellowship, he said, "The experience in church will be what it needs to be when people come prepared by studying their scriptures and talking about the gospel in their homes. It has so much more to do with what we bring to the experience than the qualification of the teacher."
Brother Webb said that “a principle is not a one-word answer. It is a statement of truth. It is a package for application."
He continued, "A principle is eternal. If it was true 200 years ago, it is true today. It is true everywhere. There is not a principle of the gospel that we are asked to live that Jesus does not live."
Brother Webb urged those in attendance to "look for Jesus' characteristics in the scriptures."
Chad H. Webb was sustained as First Counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 2024. He began serving on August 1, 2024.
Brother Webb has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Mexico Veracruz Mission, elders quorum president, high councilor, bishop, and stake president.
