Several members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hebersham area of Sydney attended ANZAC Day (25 April) services at two different Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL) Clubs, in Blacktown and Rooty Hill.
They joined with representatives of the local Network of Faith Communities to lay wreaths at the Blacktown RSL Dawn Service.
Sipili Sialeipata, a lay leader of the Church in Hebersham, laid a wreath on behalf of the Church.
He said, “I felt honoured and grateful to have the opportunity to attend such a momentous day. It was beautiful to see the people still coming out as individuals and families in numbers to support and to witness the march and all that ANZAC Day means to us.”
“It was especially good to see kids waking up early and also attending,” President Sialeipata continued. “When I think about the sacrifice that these young men and women went through just so we can have the freedom and life that we live today, it saddens me because of the loss of so many lives.”
He added, “Even though I come from a small island in the Pacific and have lived here for over 30 years, I can still appreciate their sacrifice because today wouldn’t be today if it wasn’t for them. I have shared this experience with those I’m close to and now they, too, want to go next year. I’m grateful to Blacktown RSL and all those involved for the beautiful dawn service that was held there.”
