Twice a year, members and guests of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gather for what is called "stake conference." A stake is a group of Latter-day Saint congregations in a geographical area.
Last weekend was the conference for the Church's Tauranga New Zealand Stake.
Two of the guests who attended were Garry Webber, Western Bay of Plenty Mayor, and Angie Warren-Clarke, Labour List Member of Parliament.
After the conference they shared some of their thoughts, arising from the meeting.
“One of the things that I think we have to do, not only the church group, but local leaders as well," Mayor Webber said, "is make sure that the modern generation or the younger generation are educated and understand the good ways of living your life."
He added, "And following through on the principles—not just talking about them—but living your life to those principles.”
