Auckland’s Sunset Road meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a collection point this week for those wishing to donate emergency supplies to help those hit hard by recent flooding in the region.
Friends and neighbours brought a variety of items to a “Linen and Towel Drive” organised by local Church members Hilda Port and Laura Hunter. Volunteers thanked Ella Scanlan as she dropped off her items, to which she cheerfully responded, “Sharing is Caring!”
Love and care were shown, indeed, as people donated pillows, towels, linens, shoes, canned food goods and other necessities.
The contributions are being distributed to an Auckland area Civil Defense Center in Mangere, to individuals and families displaced due to heavy rains and floods in the region. “People want to help but are not always able to perform the hard physical work that is often required," Hilda Port said.
"This is a way they can help, by donating items that are desperately needed.”
Those wanting to find other ways to donate goods or participate in the clean-up in the aftermath of the flooding can visit the JustServe-Auckland Facebook page, or the JustServe website for additional resources.
