A group of women from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently made a donation of heart-shaped pillows to the New Caledonian Cancer League.
The donation was made to provide comfort to women as they are recovering after breast cancer surgery.
The community service effort coincided with the anniversary of the 17 March 1842 establishment of the Relief Society, the worldwide organization for Latter-day Saint women.
“It is a blessing to have such an organisation which is helping others,” said Mr Jean Maurice Sotirio, president of the Cancer League.
“The patients will be so grateful to have the hearts to relieve them after surgery. We hope that it is the beginning of a long-lasting collaboration.”
Ms Sandrine Camuzo from the Reseau association also attended the donation hand-over. She said she looked forward to serving the community with Latter-day Saints in the future. She indicated that hygiene products, clothes and children’s toys were all needed.
According to one of the Latter-day Saint women who participated in the community service activity, “It was a real uplifting week for the Relief Society. The sisters are willing to do a lot more so they plan to meet again soon.”
