Saineha High School Students Help Clean Up Vava’u

Every Friday students of Saineha High School will be cleaning up the area from Konifelenisi Patrol Station to Sitiveni Pongi gas station. They are joining in the Beautify Vava’u clean-up effort with students from other schools on the island.

Saineha High School is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Teachers say the students are happy to be involved, not only because they are helping to clean-up their community, but also because they are learning about community involvement in the process.

When asked about the beautification project, the Governor of Vava’u, Lord Fulivai, said he is grateful that the schools are assisting with the initiative.

He also expressed gratitude for the three stakes (groups of congregations) of the Church that have assisted with the clean-up. He indicated that by June the clean-up will be completed and the Waste Authority will take over from there.

The high school decided to become involved after the Honourable Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, expressed the desire that everyone become involved in the clean-up.

He said he hoped that involvement of the students would help teach the younger generation the importance of cleanliness.
