Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Auckland suburb of Henderson held their semi-annual conference on Sunday, 27 August 2023.
A stake is a group of Latter-day Saint congregations within a designated geographic area.
Messages and music were focused on lifting hearts and strengthening faith in Jesus Christ.
Elder Iotua B. Tune, Area Seventy (regional leader), presided at the weekend meetings held at the Henderson stake centre.
During the conference, Elder Tune spoke of his conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ in his home country of Kiribati. He encouraged the rising generation of youth to be good citizens, love God, and love their neighbours.
Elder Marvin R. Allen, leader of the New Zealand Auckland Mission, admonished Church members to minister to new members of the Church the way the Saviour would. “We need to ensure that we minister to our new members,” he said.
Mila Masiasomua, President of the Henderson Stake, also spoke of the need to build our faith in Jesus Christ by staying on the gospel path, attending the temple, and partaking of the sacrament each week.
Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, Hon Carmel Sepuloni MP, and Phil Twyford MP, attended the meeting. Additionally, Brook Loader, Deputy Chair of Henderson-Massey Local board, and Dr. Zain Ali, of Hospice West Auckland, were also in attendance.
Before the conference, Elder Tune presented Deputy Prime Minister Sepuloni with a copy of The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Ms. Sepuloni responded, “Thank you so very much! I know how special this book is to your faith.”
