Church leader welcomes newly appointed Police Commissioner

A special welcome or powhiri for New Zealand's newly appointed Police Commissioner, Andrew Coster was attended by government and community leaders including Mrs Tania Torea, representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The event was held at Pipitea Marae.  Speakers acknowledged Costner's caring leadership during New Zealand's COVID-19 lockdown and offered encouragement and support for the challenges ahead. 

"Central to Christian values is Jesus Christ's admonition to love one another," Mrs Torea said.

"It requires us to act justly, to show mercy and to lead with humility.  I pray that Andrew might continue to be guided by these principles during his tenure."
