Mother's Day 2024: Celebrating the Divine Role of Mothers

As the second Sunday of May approaches, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Pacific Area are preparing to honour and celebrate the remarkable women who have shaped their lives. Mother’s Day is a time to express gratitude for the selfless sacrifices, unwavering love, and nurturing influence of mothers and all women.

“In the Pacific Area, mothers continue to serve as anchors for their families," Pacific Area President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Peter F. Meurs, said recently.

"They teach gospel principles, offer comfort during trials, and create a home filled with love. Whether they are juggling work, raising children, or serving in Church callings, these women exemplify the Saviour’s love and compassion.”

Camille N. Johnson, Relief Society General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently stated, “My primary identities are daughter of God, covenant woman, and disciple of Jesus Christ. And my primary orientation—that is my focus, passion and calling as a woman—is toward motherhood. That is our primary orientation, our sacred calling, as daughters of Heavenly Parents.”

Elder Meurs said, “This mother day we pay tribute to the profound influence of all women, beloved daughters of our Heavenly Father. We know our Heavenly Father loves you. We express our love and appreciation to all of you for your divine role that inspires and the divine help you receive as you love, lift, and leave a legacy for us to live up to."

Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has stated: “Mother’s Day is truly special. I never cease to be amazed that when Heavenly Father created women, he not only gave them the capacity to bring life into the world, but he also endowed them with the gifts required to shape and teach all of us.”
