Mormon Basketball Player Wins Back to Back Championships

New Zealand Breakers basketball player Gary Wilkinson says he’s a “marshmallow in church compared with out there on the court."  He made the comment while speaking at a function at the Takapuna Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints five days after winning back-to-back championships in the Australian National Basketball League.

Wilkinson and his wife Jessica have been attending the Takapuna Ward (congregation) of the Church since he signed on with the Breakers nearly two years ago.

He told attendees at the gathering in Takapuna about how he harmonises his faith, family and work.

As Wilkinson and his family depart New Zealand this week he is unsure of his next professional contract.  However, he leaves knowing that he has contributed to the Breakers’ success over the last two seasons.
