Members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Melbourne suburb of Maroondah hosted a Palm Sunday gathering to worship the Saviour through music on 2 April.
The event included choir and congregational singing, as well as narration with visuals from Easter videos.
Hayden Stringer of The Church of Jesus Christ’s Waverley congregation said, “The beauty of the Saviour is that He allows us to have such personal experiences with Him. Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will completely change us. We can understand that whatever we’re struggling with is temporary and the struggle will go away at some point. As we reach out to the Saviour, He will be there.”
Musical selections, directed by Melanie Hird, included: “I Stand All Amazed”; “We’ll Sing All Hail to Jesus’ Name”; “Saviour, Redeemer of My Soul”; “This is the Christ”; “In a Sacred Garden”; “Oh Come Unto the Lord”; and other Easter hymns of praise.
Mr Nicholas McGowan MP, a visiting Member of Parliament, said after of the program,” I enjoyed it very much. The beautiful violin reminded me of a haunting piece I heard in a civil war documentary. I always enjoy performance music interspersed with speakers.”
Mr McGowan continued, “Though I’m not religious, I find myself standing up for religious rights. They are important.”
Grant Logie, a local Latter-day Saint leader, said in his closing remarks, “I hope you’ve been able to feel tonight that Jesus Christ is real. The enormity of His sacrifice is overwhelming. He has atoned for all, yet reaches out to us individually. His entire mission was all about enabling us to make all things right in our lives. In whatever ways the Spirit of the Lord has touched your heart tonight, I invite you to carry this into your tomorrows.”
