Latter-day Saint Suva Fiji Temple Featured on New Christmas Stamp

An artist's impression of the Suva Fiji Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be featured on a new stamp to be released by Post Fiji tomorrow.

Adolf Johansson, Latter-day Saints' Fiji Service Centre Manager said he is "grateful to Post Fiji for including the Suva Fiji Temple in this year’s Christmas stamp series as temples are the most sacred buildings of the Church."

The temple, which was dedicated in 2000, is currently closed for renovations. It is expected to be re-opened in late 2015.

20 years ago a similar stamp was produced in Tahiti featuring an image of the Church's Tahiti Temple.

This stamp marked the 150th anniversary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in French Polynesia.

According to a "topic" page on Mormon Newsroom: "Temples are not regular places of Sunday worship for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are quite different from the thousands of regular chapels or meetinghouses all over the world that are used for Sunday services."

"Anyone, regardless of religion, may enter a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse and attend services. However, because of the sacredness of temples as “houses of the Lord,” only members of the Church, who are in good standing are allowed to enter the temples. A member must be observing the basic principles of the faith and attest to that fact to his or her local leaders once every two years in order to enter a temple."
