King Tupou VI and his wife Queen Nanasipau’u Tuku’aho were guests of honour at the Liahona High School graduation ceremony recently.
The King presented diplomas to each of the 107 graduating students on 21 November 2012.

King Tupou VI said his visit to Liahona High School was like “returning home,” since he had previously attended a graduation at the school as the then Prime Minister and lord of the estate where the campus is located.
This was the first time a Tongan King has attended an academic ceremony such as this. Students, parents and teachers expressed gratitude that King Tupou VI attended the event.
Other honoured guests also attended the ceremony, in addition to families, faculty and staff.
Liahona High School principal Inoke F. Kupu, along with his wife Moana, led the students in the graduation procession. Mr Kupu is retiring this year after a distinguished career in education.
Miss Loata Halamako Iloa was named the school’s Dux for 2012. According to Mr Kupu, Loata “is very diligent, studious and humble in her ways.”
The graduation ceremony was aired live on radio and later broadcast on TV Tonga.
Prior to the graduating ceremony, students, parents and other guests enjoyed a ball and banquet where, according to one participant, “there was elegant décor and entertainment.”
