First Presidency Calls New General Authority Seventy

Former Pacific Area Presidency Counselor Yamashita given emeritus status

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has called Alexander Dushku to be a General Authority Seventy. Elder Dushku was sustained at the October 2023 General Conference.

Elder Dushku graduated in economics from Brigham Young University in 1990 and from BYU Law School in 1993. He has worked as an attorney for Kirton McConkie since 1996. 

Before his call as a General Authority Seventy, Elder Dushku served in many leadership positions in the Church, as well as a full-time missionary in the Portugal Lisbon Mission.

Elder Dushku was born in Fairfield, California, on Nov. 17, 1966. He married Jennifer Burnham in 1988. They have eight children.

Three General Authority Seventies who turn 70 years old this year received emeritus status effective August 1. 

Those becoming General Authority Emeriti were Elder Benjamín De Hoyos, Elder Juan A. Uceda and Elder Kazuhiko Yamashita.

Elder Yamashita served as a member of the Pacific Area Presidency from 2019 to 2022.
