Elder Peter F. Meurs of the Pacific Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met on Friday 9 June with Fatafehi Kinikinilau Lolomana‘ia Fakafānua, Lord of the Realm and the Speaker of the Tongan Legislative Assembly.
Elder Meurs is in Tonga this weekend meeting with members, missionaries and friends of the Church. He was accompanied at the meeting by Elder Sione Tuione, Area Seventy, and Elder Wayne Maurer, Area Seventy.
The Church of Jesus Christ has a rich history in the Kingdom of Tonga, and has worked with the Government, other churches and charities for many years to relieve suffering and build self-reliance in communities.
In today’s meeting, the group discussed humanitarian needs in the country, as well as opportunities for future collaboration to lift lives and fortify families.
After the meeting, Elder Meurs called the Tongan Speaker “a wonderful people-focussed leader.”
“We talked about the faith of Tongan people and the blessing they are to the world.”
Elder Meurs said that Lord Fakafānua noted that “their greatest asset is their people.”
