The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced plans today for 36 new homes to be built in the Hamilton suburb of Temple View.
The development of a new residential subdivision, called “Hapori Park at Temple View,” signals the start of the second stage of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Temple View Project.
Two, three and four-bedroom homes—some single storey, some double—will be constructed by Classic Builders Waikato Ltd., a Kiwi-owned and operated group home builder.
“It will further enhance family life and economic vitality of the community,” according to project director, Adam Aalders.

"Hapori” meaning “community,” in te reo Māori (Māori language), reflects the vison and objective of the Temple View Project from the outset.
The dedication of the David O. McKay Stake and Cultural Events Centre in Temple View in June 2017 marked the effective completion of the first stage of the Temple View Project.
Other components of that stage included the major upgrade of the Tuhikaramea Road corridor through Temple View, the restoration of the George R. Biesinger (GRB) building, the Kai Hall, the Mendenhall Library and the First House, along with the development of Legacy Park and the associated playground, interpretative walkways and pavilions.
Since then, significant earthworks and other preparations have been undertaken to prepare the area for those who want to make Hapori Park their home.
“The general feeling is let’s go; let’s get it started,” says local Latter-day Saint leader, John A. Kendall.
“I was raised here under the light of the temple and I’ve raised my own family here. We are looking forward to welcoming new families.”
The pinnacle of the Temple View community is the Hamilton New Zealand Temple. It closed in 2018 for significant renovation and is expected to be re-opened after a public open house and re-dedication in 2021.
