Auckland Councillor Visits Pacific Area Office

Auckland Councillor, Alfred “Alf” Filipaina, visited the Pacific Area Office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 31 July 2023.

He was invited to visit the headquarters of the Church in the Pacific Area by Elder Taniela B. Wakolo, General Authority Seventy, and a member of the Pacific Area Presidency.

During their discussion they spoke about family issues, local crime, policing challenges, and humanitarian opportunities.

Councillor Filipaina and Elder Wakolo discussed the ongoing construction of the Auckland New Zealand Temple, on Redoubt Road in Manukau.

Elder Wakolo explained the Church’s focus on volunteerism and community service, and how this is inspired by the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.

He thanked Councillor Filipaina for his many years of service to the people of Auckland.

Elder Wakolo and Councillor Filipaina discussed JustServe.org, a community service website, and the “Light the World” giving machines that the Church places in locations throughout the world each Christmas season.

Elder Wakolo noted that Aucklanders will have the opportunity this Christmas season to make a donation to a local charity using a giving machine later this year.
