1000+ Young Adults Prepare to Descend on Hamilton for Convention

No drugs, no alcohol—just good clean fun

Over one thousand young adults from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will gather in Hamilton for a four-day convention starting this week.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Isles of the Sea,” a reference from the Book of Mormon that says that God remembers individuals who live everywhere, including islands. (The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ   1 Nephi 19:15-18)

Young adults from all over New Zealand, and a few from overseas, will start checking in Wednesday evening, with an underwater-themed dance awaiting them to kick off their four-day adventure.

Organisers say the convention will give young people opportunities to make friends, strengthen their faith and testimony of Jesus Christ, and become more Christ-like.

A number of guests from other faiths are also planning on joining in.

Activities will include sports, workshops, a cultural performance, music festival, hangi (traditional New Zealand Māori method of cooking food), water-slide, beach activities, and a 1950's themed ball.

Author Al Fox Carraway will be a keynote speaker.
