Chainsaws were buzzing, mowers were humming, weeds were pulled, trees were planted and hearts were lifted as yellow-shirted “Mormon Helping Hands” volunteers joyfully served their communities across Australia, New Zealand, and the islands of the South Pacific on Saturday 28 October.
140 volunteers in Auckland braved rainy and muddy conditions to plant 4,000 trees on the Rosebank Peninsula in the suburb of Avondale.
“We wouldn’t be able to do this sort of thing without the help of groups like the Latter-day Saints,” said Neil Henderson from the Whau River Catchment Trust, Friends of the Whau.

Director of public affairs for the Church in Auckland and Northland, Muriel Samuela, said, “We serve our communities because we love God and our fellow man. Jesus Christ went about doing good, and that’s what we strive to do. And when we lift others, we are uplifted ourselves.”
