Wheelchairs Donated to Solomon Islands Ministry of Health

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, through LDS Charites, donated wheelchairs to the Ministry of Health last week in Honiara.

Representing the Church at a handover ceremony was President Mathew Sauseru, senior leader of the Church in Solomon Islands. He presented to Dr. Steve Aumanu, CEO of the National Transfer Hospital, the key to the shipping container holding 300 wheelchairs and related medical equipment.

Accompanying President Sauseru at the ceremony were Elder Lynn Sanders and Sister Sandy Sanders, senior missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from America serving in Honiara. Among other duties, they represent LDS Charities in Solomon Islands.

LDS Charities provides humanitarian assistance of many kinds around the world.  One of its special projects is gifting wheelchairs for those in need who cannot afford their own.

Three days following the handover ceremony local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints put on their well-known Mormon Helping Hands vests and went to work unloading the container of wheelchairs in preparation for their assembly.
