Young Volunteers Pack Christmas Boxes for Needy New Zealand Families

Young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Tamaki (Auckland) congregation volunteered their time last Saturday to assist with this year’s “Christmas Box” project.

On 6 December at the Life Convention Centre, Latter-day Saint youth joined other volunteers from different churches, community groups, businesses, dance and sports teams to pack food hampers for families doing it tough this Christmas season.

“Christmas Box” has been providing food for families in need since 2001.  The goal is to help struggling families enjoy this special time of year.  48,000 Christmas boxes have been delivered to families over the past 13 years.

The young adults packed 13 pallets with over 700 boxes each filled with love.  A grand total of 6,000 boxes were packed by all participants.

Zeresa Ainuu, one of the young Latter-day Saint participants, said, “I loved the feeling of working with all these people and thinking about those we would be helping.”

Danny Olive had a similar experience. “It’s all in the spirit of Christmas, to serve one another.”

As the group was leaving, Tuki Falesii said, “ We serve to love, and love to serve.”

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints join with other Christians and others of good will to serve communities throughout the world.
