Sam Hess of American Fork, Utah and Caleb Shin of West Jordan, Utah are missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving for two years in Suva, Fiji.
As missionaries, they serve the people of Fiji through regular community service as well as sharing their beliefs about God, Jesus Christ, families and how to find peace in a difficult world.
They are far from home and family during the season of the year that brings families together, but they carried the love of the season and the Lord in their hearts as they helped Fiji launch the #LightTheWorld service initiative in Suva's largest mall.
The "Light the World" Christmas initiative, now in its second year, focuses on celebrating and sharing the light of Jesus Christ, the "light of the world" (John 8:12). The Saviour declared, "Ye are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14).
This was a great experience helping others remember the true spirit of Christmas," said Elder Hess who has been serving in Fiji for 11 months.
Elder Shin was encouraged as he noticed the busy Christmas shoppers stop and watch the launch video then ask more questions about the Saviour and how to get involved.
He said, "Despite being away from home, family and snow this Christmas, I could feel the spirit of Christmas right here in Fiji."
