Young Latter-day Saint Plays Piano for Cancer Patients

After Shaqaila Uelese’s father succumbed to multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer, she felt a strong desire to pay tribute to him by raising money to help others suffering with cancer.

According to a report in Hawke’s Bay Today, Shaqaila felt that she should use her talent as a pianist to hold a piano marathon.  Her goal is to raise $5,000 and she is confident that goal will be reached.

Shaqaila has so far played a total of 24 hours in six days at venues in Wellington, Levin, Palmerston North and Hastings.

“I have been surprised and inspired by all those who have come forward to volunteer with the project and for those who have pledged financial support,” she says.

Shaqaila is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lives in Flaxmere, New Zealand.

The proceeds of her charitable effort will be donated to Cranford Hospice and Wellington Cancer Society.
