Women of Faith and Service Honoured in Tonga

Women from across Tonga were honoured recently at a special appreciation dinner hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, celebrating their faith, leadership, and contributions to families and communities throughout the nation.

The event brought together women representing a wide range of fields—including broadcasting, agriculture, sports, education, and community service—recognising both their public achievements and the quiet, consistent efforts that strengthen homes and society. Attendees included women from various Christian denominations and other faith traditions, reflecting a shared commitment to service and unity.

Elder Sione Tuʻiʻone, Area Seventy in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and President Andrew Toʻimoana, the Church’s National Communication Director, joined in acknowledging the women who were recognised for their influence and dedication.

Unity and Shared Purpose

A brief group activity invited participants to form small circles and select names that reflected their identity and collective mission. Chosen names such as Women of Faith, Nusipalataha, Kakala Tuifio, and United We Stand highlighted themes of unity, cultural pride, and spiritual strength—values that resonated throughout the evening.

A Message of Love and Cooperation

Speaking on behalf of the Church, Elder Tuʻiʻone shared an uplifting message centred on love, service, and unity as essential foundations for Tonga’s future. He encouraged the women to continue supporting one another, noting that peace and happiness grow from compassion and cooperation.

“Tonight’s gathering is the model this country needs for the future—that you help and love one another so you can have peace and we will all be happy,” he said.

Interfaith Reflections

Adding a unique perspective, Melesila Weilert of the Baháʼí Faith expressed her gratitude for the inclusive spirit of the evening. She spoke of the joy she felt meeting women who are making meaningful contributions in their communities and reflected on the powerful sense of unity among women of different backgrounds.

As Tonga commemorates 200 years since the arrival of Christian missionaries, she shared her hope that this spirit of respect, collaboration, and shared purpose will continue to bless the nation.

Honouring Women Who Strengthen Tonga

The evening concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation, recognising each woman’s service and leadership. More than a formal acknowledgement, the event served as a reminder of the profound influence women have as the backbone of the home and the heart of society.

As participants departed, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose—to uplift others, strengthen their communities, and continue shining as examples of faith, resilience, and hope for generations to come.
