What Latter-day Saints Did on Sunday in Port Vila Following Two Cyclones

Back to back cyclones hit the Vanuatu islands last week

On Sunday 5 March 2023, Port Vila leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints visited with Latter-day Saints across the island of Efate to assess the needs of families and minister to them, following Cyclone Kevin.

They found people looking forward with hope because of their faith in the Saviour Jesus Christ, despite damage to their houses and gardens.

Latter-day Saint families gathered with neighbouring families in their homes for their sabbath day church services.

All missionaries in Vanuatu have been contacted and are safe.

Power has been restored in some areas of Port Vila.

Church buildings have minor damages.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is working with government and other organisations to assess needs so humanitarian support can be provided in the weeks ahead.

During Cyclone Judy, families sheltered in a local church meetinghouse and have since returned to their homes, anxious to begin the rebuild.
