Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the South Pacific are gearing up for what will hopefully be the biggest annual “day of service” yet.
Held on Saturday, October 27, this year’s day of service will involve members of the Church, neighbours and friends in Australia, New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific.
Local leaders will identify needs in their respective communities and organize volunteer help to fill those needs.
In previous years, hundreds of people have been mobilized to help. Among other projects, volunteers built a basketball court and repaired a school in Vanuatu and cut grass in Fiji. In Samoa, Tonga and New Zealand, volunteers cleaned cemeteries, schools, rivers, hospitals, drains, beaches and roadsides.
All those interested, including government, community and religious organizations, are invited to participate by coordinating with local church leaders or organizing their own service projects.
All participants are encouraged to use the hashtags #ServingInThePacific and #DayOfService in social media posts related to the event.
