Tongan Latter-day Saints and Guests Enjoy Musical Devotional

Members and guests of the Nuku’alofa Tonga West Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in a musical devotional last Sunday evening (19 July).

A stake is a group of congregations in a geographical area. The Nuku’alofa Tonga West Stake is situated on the western side of the island of Tongatapu including villages from Fatai to Ha’atafu.

The devotional, which featured musical items by choirs and smaller choral groups, was a chance for people to prepare for this weekend’s semi-annual stake conference.

Stakes of the Church around the world hold two conferences each year. These gatherings are presided over by the stake president or a visiting church leader.

Sermons, congregational hymns and choir music are focused on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Speakers talk about ways the gospel of Jesus Christ and teachings of modern-day prophets and apostles can be applied to strengthen individuals and families.

One of the speakers at last Sunday’s musical devotional was Prince Ata of the Tongan Royal Family. He shared with those in attendance how the gospel of Jesus Christ blesses his life.
