South Australian Latter-day Saints Build on Generations of Faithful Service

This year, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Adelaide, Australia are celebrating the 185th anniversary of the arrival of the first missionary to the country – William Barratt – as well as the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Adelaide Australia Temple.

Building on generations of faith in God the Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, Latter-day Saints are joyously sharing their love of God and neighbour through worship, fellowship, and service.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints find great joy in serving others. They find that serving others strengthens faith for both the giver and the receiver.

Speaking of William Barratt, Lesley Raeside, a Church member in Adelaide and an Area Organisation Advisor, said, “What a great testament to one man’s faith and courage to provide that opportunity for us many, many years later.”

Today, missionaries in the Australia Adelaide Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ spend a portion of their time serving people in their communities. Over the last several months, they have been averaging 85 service projects a week.

Sister Bradbeer, a missionary serving in Adelaide, said, “The service we give to our friends and neighbours lifts me and helps me to see how serving others is what Jesus meant when He said, ‘love your neighbour.’”  (Matthew 22:39)
