Sharing Noah's Pudding Brings Unity and Inclusion

On 10 August, a group of approximately 20 Muslim friends from Affinity Intercultural Foundation and Galaxy Foundation attended the Sunday services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Camden, NSW, Australia, to celebrate their cherished tradition of Noah’s Pudding.

This event draws upon a deeply spiritual story that holds significance across multiple faiths, including Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and the Baha’i tradition.

Noah’s Pudding, also known as Ashura, is a traditional dessert with deep spiritual roots. It commemorates the story of prophet Noah, who, after surviving the great flood, prepared a simple dish using the remaining ingredients on the ark. The pudding blends grains, fruits, nuts, and spices into a dish where each flavour retains its integrity while contributing to a harmonious whole. In this way, it serves as a powerful metaphor for unity in diversity, mutual respect, and a shared spirit of gratitude and peace.

Jeff Adali, a guest attending the gathering, said, “What a truly beautiful event today – filled with joy, togetherness, and kindness.”

The group attended church services and enjoyed a tour of the church building. They brought with them 150-200 individually portioned servings of Noah’s Pudding, which were shared at the end of the tour.

Ahmet Polat, Executive Director at Affinity Intercultural Foundation, said, “We have witnessed firsthand the beauty and warmth these encounters bring. We believe this shared gathering is a truly heartening expression of interfaith friendship and a memorable moment for all involved.”
