VIDEO: Parents and Schools Can Learn from Lock-down Experience, Educator Says

Dr Melanie Riwai-Couch, an education researcher and consultant based in Christchurch, says that many parents and educators she has spoken with feel that it would be a missed opportunity to return to the status quo after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Watch an interview with Dr Riwai-Couch on Māori Television.

Read the research, titled, "School-led learning at home: Voices of parents of Māori and Pasifika students," here.

The authors are Dr Melanie Riwai-Couch, Ally Bull, Brenda Ellis, Kerry Hall, Jane Nicholls, Leali’ie’e Tufulasi Taleni and Richard Watkinson.

Dr Riwai-Couch and her husband Jared are raising five children, which, she says, informs their experience around education, and generates questions for her research.

The Riwai-Couch family are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
