On 8 March, women (and men) around the world will celebrate International Women’s Day. Leading up to that day, and as a contribution to the many conversations going on in honour of women, Pacific Mormon Newsroom is profiling a number of Mormon women who call New Zealand home.
Nicola Petty
Nicola Petty, a mother of two from Christchurch, New Zealand, has faced many challenges in her life. She says the answers and capacity to respond to these challenges come to her through prayer and faith.
“I have always prayed and received answers to prayers,” she says.
“I think that, to me, is the main thing. To feel that my life has a purpose, and if I ask for help I will get it.”
Nicola’s youngest son Jonathon was born with autism and is blind. At age four it was discovered that he was able to play the piano and is now considered to be one of New Zealand’s few savants. He has performed many concerts and has a unique personality that he is able to express through music.
Those who know Nicola best say that her faith is expressed through her diligence and unconditional love daily to her family.
A former Mormon missionary, currently a university lecturer and mother, Nicola says she has learnt much throughout her life about the need for faith, prayer, diligence, and unconditional love.
