On 8 March, women and men around the world will celebrate International Women’s Day. Leading up to that day, and as a contribution to the many conversations going on in honour of women, Pacific Mormon Newsroom is profiling a number of Mormon women who call New Zealand home.
Jacqueline Talini
As a single mother of six children, Jacqueline Taleni found herself homeless when her house was destroyed in the Christchurch earthquake on 22, February 2011.
Even though she lost her own home she comforted many others in this time of great need. According to her friends, she truly put the needs of others before her own.
Because she has seen so much devastation and suffering she says she feels a deep sense of gratitude for the blessings that she and her family have.
As a professional nurse and a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in her local ward [congregation] in Christchurch, New Zealand, she says she “sees times of sadness and despair, but knows that we are all spirit children of a loving Father in Heaven.”
Her faith, she says, gives her the courage to do all that is required of her.
“I have learnt that with God, nothing is impossible.”
