New Zealand Musician Invited to Sing with World-Renowned Tabernacle Choir

“I believe sacred music can be a conduit between Heaven and Earth”

For the next three years, Robert Dil will serve as a music missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, using his musical talents to uplift and inspire others.

Dil will be only the second New Zealander to sing in the Tabernacle Choir’s “Global Participant Program.”

According to the Choir’s website, “In April 2023, The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square launched a new program involving global choir participants from around the world. In the past, The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has often been referred to as ‘America’s choir.’ However, despite being based in the United States, the Choir has a global reach.”

“To reflect the worldwide mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the global participant program allows for qualified Latter-day Saints from selected areas of the Church to sing with the Choir as global participants during general conference every April and October.”

Dil expressed deep gratitude for the gift of music in his life, describing it as a source of strength during some of his most challenging moments, including his struggles with anxiety and depression. “I could always say yes to a music assignment when I couldn’t say yes to anything else,” he shares.

Dil often leads musical initiatives in his community, building programs from the ground up. “As I offer my talents in service to God, I find my place in His kingdom,” he says.

Now, with this new opportunity, Dil feels like he can serve the Lord through music on a greater scale.

“I believe sacred music can be a conduit between Heaven and Earth,” he says.

Dil compares learning music to living a life of faith. “Practicing music is like living the gospel. It isn't always easy, but the more you do it, the easier it gets, and the more beautiful the sound you create. It takes time to learn and grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ and it isn't always easy. There are challenges along the way - just like in music.”

Now, as he prepares for General Conference, a bi-annual event where Church leaders share spiritual messages and The Tabernacle Choir sings, Dil hopes his journey inspires others to trust in God, develop their talents, and embrace opportunities to serve.
