New Zealand sets aside the month of August each year as a national family history month.

It’s a great time for communities of all faiths—or of no faith—to come together to share ideas, methods, and updates on family history and technological advancements.

To celebrate this community event, Ian James, who has worked for FamilySearch for over ten years, provided valuable information and insights on the use of AI on a Facebook Live event Thursday, August 29th2024.

During the event, hosted by Madi Jordan, Ian gave an overview of how FamilySearch utilizes AI for computer-aided indexing to extract names, dates, and places from historical records.

He also explained how “Get Involved,” a FamilySearch function, can help users find projects they can do at home or on their phones when they have 15 minutes of spare time.

A viewer shared their appreciation by saying, “Thank you for your wonderful contribution and for being a part of Family History Month!”
