Ground was broken on 14 September for a new meetinghouse which will be built for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Vanuatu.
To be constructed in the aptly named area of “Fresh Water,” the building will make it possible for local members and guests of the Church to participate in weekly worship services and other meetings and activities.
In his remarks at the ground-breaking ceremony, Yvon Basil, president of the Vanuatu Port Vila Stake, said, “The chapel, soon to be built on this land, will be ideally located on a hilltop that overlooks the Fresh Water and Anabrou areas.”
“When I visited this place,” he said, “the words of the prophet Isaiah came to my mind: ‘Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the god of Jacob, and he will teach us of his ways . . .’”
He continued, “I immediately knew that this was the right place for the new chapel to be built.”
“This place will become a spiritual refuge for Church members in the in Anabrou, Ohlen, Fresh Water and Beverley areas,” said Basil.
It is anticipated that the new chapel will be completed in May or June of 2019.
