New Caledonian Media Focus on Church and its Members

New Caledonian Latter-day Saints are noticing a dramatic increase in the amount of attention news media are giving to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"For many years we as a church community have been quietly going about our business," New Caledonian Church leader Georgie Guidi says.

"But lately, there has been a lot of interest about our faith and our members from TV news, newspapers and magazines."

Georgie Guidi, who is the president of the newly-formed Noumea New Caledonia Stake of the Church, says there was extensive media coverage when the stake was organized on 27 May 2012.

"There were three newspaper articles published, as well as a news report on the evening TV news," he said.

In addition, in the last few months the news media has reported on a Mormon Helping Hands community service project as well as a New Caledonian community leader being baptized into the Church.

"We are grateful that the news media are reporting on our church and our members," says President Guidi. "It gives us the chance to describe our experiences as Latter-day Saints and help others understand our beliefs."

News organizations in the US have also reported recently on the Church in New Caledonia such as this article in LDS Church News.
