"Himatangi's beach and township got a cleanup yesterday thanks to a group of Mormon volunteers," reports the Manawatu Standard today.
The article continues: "The voluntary work is all part of the annual Mormon Helping Hands Day which is now in its fifth year."
"Ninety-five volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wore bright yellow T-shirts and took to the sand and streets, filling trailers with rubbish."
Organizer Mervyn Dykes told the newspaper: "The beach was actually fairly clean, but we still found about five trailer-loads of rubbish, the most surprising items amongst which were an old sofa and the remains of a 32-inch plasma TV."
